Its action is to inhibit the action of enzymes released during the inflammatory reaction, including the following proteolytic enzymes, mainly neutrophil elastase, as well as such as proteinase 3, cathepsin G and, trypsin. Alpha 1-antitrypsin is produced in the liver by hepatocytes and macrophages.
