An oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is a test performed in the diagnosis of diabetes. The test involves determining fasting blood glucose, then drinking 75 g of glucose dissolved in 250 - 300 ml of boiled water and determining the glucose level after and 2 hours.Preparation of the solution is done at the point of collection, the 75g glucose purchased by the patient at the pharmacy is used.

In pregnant women, a 2-point test is performed, i.e., fasting, and after 120 minutes, after drinking a solution containing 75g of glucose.

Previously diagnosed diabetes is a contraindication to the test. If there is a positive history of hyperglycemia (increased thirst, polyuria, unintentional weight loss), a strip test of capillary blood glucose with a glucometer should be performed first to confirm symptoms of hyperglycemia before administering 75g of glucose.
