Clinical significance

Fibronectin is a glycoprotein thatós found in the extracellular matrix. There are two types: soluble-osseous fibronectin, whichóra is produced by hepatocytes in the liver, and is found in plasma and other fluids, e.g., móspinal fluid, saliva. The second type is the insoluble form of fibronectin, whichóra is found on the surface of róood cells and extracellular matrix - connective tissue. The role of fibronectin is to participate in opsonization processes. Due to their ability to adhere intercomórk, they are involved in wound healing. A decrease in fibronectin concentration occurs after shock, burns and during infection. Determination of fetal fibronectin is also used to assess the risk of preterm labor.
