Flupentixol belongs to the antipsychotic drugsów, thioxanthene derivatives. Its action is based on blocking dopamine receptors, which consequently leads to a decrease in the amount of dopamine in the central nervous system. Flupentixol exhibits antidepressant, anti-anxiety and activating effects. The higher the dose, the stronger the effect. It is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, psychosis, hallucinationsów, disorders of the train of thought, depression accompanied by anxiety, feelings of weakness and lack of initiative. Testing the concentration of flupentixol in venous blood serum is performed when poisoning with this drug is suspected. In addition, it is helpful in controlling the correct dosage of the drug.
