Clinical significance

Renal function can be assessed in many waysów. One of them is the urinary excretion of enzymesów, in particular N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG). Determination of NAG in urine is considered to be a rapid and non-invasive method for detecting and monitoring renal tubular function under róely conditions. Determination of NAG in urine is a highly sensitive and reliable indicator of kidney damage, such as damage or dysfunction due to diabetes mellitus, nephrotic syndrome, inflammation, urinary dróg infection, hypercalciuria, urolithiasis, hypertension, heavy metal poisoning or treatment with nephrotoxic drugs.
