IgM antibodies

Testing the level of IgM antibodies against mumps in the blood. Mumps is an infectious disease, a sudden parotitis that causes inflammation of the salivary glands.

Symptoms of mumps:

• pain, 
• swelling, 
• redness, 
• difficulty in chewing, 
• swallowing, 
• fever, 

A positive IgM test result indicates active or recent past infection with mumps virus. Specific IgM antibodies appear in the acute period of the disease.
