Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) IgM antibodies

HSV - herpes simplex virus - herpes simplex virus, a DNA virus with two typesch types 1 and 2. Infection with type HSV-1 usually affects the mucousve of the mouth, lip, conjunctivave and rarely the genitalorgans.

The HSV-1 type, in very rare cases, can cause herpetic mzygitis or organ inflammation.

The HSV-2 type predominantly causes genitalinfections. HSV infection can be primary or recurrent, with a symptomatic or asymptomatic course. IgG antibodies appear a few to several weeks after primary infection and persist throughout life.
