Plasminogen - a protein found in the blood that, under the influence of the
tissue plasminogen activator transforms into plasmin,
a substance with anticoagulant activity that acts by
breakdown of the clot component - fibrin. The determination of plasminogen
is performed in the diagnosis of thrombophilia (hypercoagulability, i.e
disorders of various etiologies leading to clot formation)
Thrombophilias can be acquired or congenital. As a result of
formation of thrombophils may result in the restriction of the lumen of a blood vessel
of a blood vessel or its closure and, consequently, ischemia of a
of a specific organ or part of the body.
