Phenothiazine derivatives
Clinical importance
Compounds used as neuroleptic, sedative, antipsychotic, antiemetic, sleeping, hypotensive, antihistamine drugs (tisercin, chlorpromazine, tioridazine). After taking a large dose of phenothiazine derivatives, dizziness, balance and coordination disorders, drowsiness, then a state of confusion and coma occur. Quite characteristic is a significant constriction of the pupils and “oral mucositis.” In deep comas, there is a decrease in blood pressure, as well as an increase in tendon and periosteal reflexes. In severe poisoning, hypothermia may occur, as well as periodic seizures and pseudo-parkinsonian symptoms. Damage to parenchymal organs, liver and kidneys in acute poisoning occurs only occasionally, while it is quite characteristic of chronic poisoning.
