IgA

Test the level of immunoglobulin A (IgA) in the blood.

Immunoglobulin class A is present both in plasma and in the mucosal secretions. They provide important protection against the body's own bacterial flora.

The indication for the determination of IgA is:

• hypo- and hypergammaglobulinemia,
• immunodeficiency,
• chronic infections,
• monoclonal gammapathies,
• chronic liver disease,

Reduced values occur in increased protein loss (nephrotic syndrome, burns, enteropathy), in isolated antibody deficiency.

Augmented values are observed in the course of:

• hypergammaglobulinemia,
• spondyloarthropathy,
• primary biliary cirrhosis,
• autoimmune diseases,
