Test the level of immunoglobulin A (IgA) in the blood.
Immunoglobulin class A is present both in plasma and in the
mucosal secretions. They provide important protection against the body's own
bacterial flora.
The indication for the determination of IgA is:
- hypo- and hypergammaglobulinemia,
- immunodeficiency,
- chronic infections,
- monoclonal gammapathies,
- chronic liver disease,
Reduced values occur in increased protein loss
(nephrotic syndrome, burns, enteropathy), in isolated
antibody deficiency.
Augmented values are observed in the course of:
- hypergammaglobulinemia,
- spondyloarthropathy,
- primary biliary cirrhosis,
- autoimmune diseases,
